RETURNS/REFUNDS POLICY

At The Original Beef Chief, we take pride in producing premium Australian beef jerky and biltong using traditional methods. Due to the nature of food products and food safety regulations, our returns and refunds policy is necessarily strict.

Please read this policy carefully before making a purchase.

To be eligible for a return you must return the unopened product to us. Generally, the most cost effective method is to purchase a small prepaid satchel. As soon as the parcel is received your refund will be processed. You will receive a full refund for your entire order, less anything you've opened. We do not refund shipping costs.

Our policy term is 30 days. If 30 days have gone by since your purchase, unfortunately we can’t offer you a refund or exchange.

*Please note goods that are damaged can not be refunded. Please take care to pack your returned items.

- Gift cards
- Clothing

Please note that if an order is returned to us due to an incorrect address or it not being collected from the post office after Australia Posts allowed period of holding time we cannot offer a refund as we are charged for the order to be sent back to us. We can however offer to re-ship the order back out to you if you cover the re-shipping costs.

1. Food Products – No Returns After Opening

For hygiene and food safety reasons, we do not accept returns or offer refunds for food products that have been opened, consumed, or discarded.

Once a food item has been opened, it cannot be resold or safely assessed, and therefore is not eligible for return.


2. Acceptable Quality & Product Characteristics

Beef jerky and biltong are traditional air-dried meat products. By their nature:

  • Texture may be firm, chewy, or tough

  • Flavour intensity may vary slightly between batches

  • Dryness and chewiness are intentional characteristics, not defects

Differences in texture, chew, flavour preference, or personal taste do not constitute a fault and are not grounds for a refund.


3. Faulty, Incorrect, or Damaged Items

We will offer a replacement or refund where:

  • The incorrect item was supplied

  • The product arrived damaged

  • The product is confirmed to be faulty or unsafe

To assess these claims, customers must contact us within 7 days of delivery and provide:

  • Clear photos of the product and packaging

  • Order number and batch details

  • A description of the issue

The product must be retained to allow investigation.


4. Food Safety & Spoilage Claims

We take food safety extremely seriously.

If you believe a product is spoiled, contaminated, or unsafe:

  • You must contact us immediately

  • Do not consume or discard the product

  • Retain the product and packaging

  • Provide clear photographic evidence and batch details

Where a product has been fully consumed or discarded before contact is made, we are unable to verify or investigate the claim and no refund or replacement will be provided.


5. Bulk and Multi-Pack Orders

For bulk or multi-pack purchases:

  • Refunds or replacements will not be issued where all items have been opened, consumed, or discarded before contacting us

  • If an issue is identified, customers must contact us before opening additional items from the order

Opening or consuming an entire bulk order before raising a concern removes our ability to assess the issue.


6. Change of Mind

We do not offer refunds or returns for change of mind, incorrect selection, or preference-based decisions.

Please review product descriptions carefully before purchasing.


7. Shipping Issues

If your order is lost or damaged in transit, please contact us within 7 days of delivery with supporting evidence so we can investigate with the carrier.


8. Goodwill Gestures

From time to time, we may offer store credit or goodwill gestures at our discretion.
These are not an admission of fault or liability and do not override this policy.


9. Australian Consumer Law

This policy operates in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law.
Nothing in this policy excludes your statutory rights where a product is genuinely faulty and the claim can be reasonably substantiated.

You will be responsible for paying for your own shipping costs for returning your item. Shipping costs are non-refundable.

If you are shipping an item over $75, you should consider using a trackable shipping service or purchasing shipping insurance. We can't guarantee that we will receive your returned item.
